Thistles and Sticks is inspired by nature. All of our artisan soaps, beauty products, specialty items and creative workshops have been carefully crafted with this philosophy in mind.

We began this journey into soap making after becoming aware of the hidden chemicals in products we use every day on our hair and on our skin. Health conscious decisions for us involve eating whole, less processed foods, and caring for our skin, our largest organ, with non-toxic ingredients.

Thistles and Sticks products are free from toxins and additives such as Parabens, SLS, Propylene Glycol, and petrochemicals. As well, we never use artificial dyes, colours, fragrances, or animal fats.

We responsibly hand-harvest botanicals such as pine, spruce, cedar, calendula, and yarrow, to name a few, then incorporate them into products to provide natural fragrance, texture, and organic attributes. Natural clays, herbs, botanicals and essential oils give subtle colour and scent to our artisan soaps and beauty products.

Our select wooden specialty items are crafted from aged wood exhibiting their own individual characteristics, showcasing the beauty of nature. We see the potential in each piece of wood before it begins its creative journey. Our specialty items change frequently as each is one-of-kind and handcrafted.

The satisfaction and joy of handcrafting is something we desire to share with others. Thistles and Sticks features workshops to guide and ignite your creative side. Whether it’s fashioning soap, Eco printing fabric or wet and dry felting, these creative workshops are informative and hands on with a finished product to take home.

It is our desire to keep our products and packaging earth-friendly, therefore we strive to have low-waste packaging, repurposed containers, 100% recycled paper products, and compostable paperboard tubes.

We do not use any chemicals or synthetics to preserve our products. We make our products in small batches and replenish our stock as needed to provide optimum freshness. As such, it’s recommended to use our products within 6 months.

Thistles & Sticks is inspired by nature.

All of our artisan soaps and beauty care products have been carefully crafted.   They are made with natural plant based colours, exfoliants and clays.  We only use essential oils for our scents.

We keep it simple.

Our signature soap is our `Big Valley’ Old Brick Sand Soap.  It has a very interesting history.  It’s made with reclaimed bricks from a 160 year old church that was demolished. J.P. ONT are the initials stamped. on the bricks.  The bricks were relocated and used at Big Valley in Bethany, Ontario.

Thistles and Sticks occasionally features items handcrafted by a local woodworker. Each unique item is the result of the type of wood chosen and the ideas it inspires. Beautiful and often one-of-a-kind, these wooden products continuously evolve as inventory changes.

All items are hand-carved with care. Whether it’s a wooden ladle fashioned from a burl, a salt spoon, or a treasure box made from 150 year old wood, all creations are solid and durable.

Beautiful gift ideas for yourself, or that special someone in your life.
